How to Offset Your Carbon Footprint

Costa Rica, celebrated for its incredible biodiversity, has achieved something remarkable: it reversed decades of deforestation. In fact, in the country’s official greenhouse gas inventory submitted to the Climate Change Convention, the forestry sector is recognized as a carbon sink, absorbing emissions instead of releasing them.

In line with its commitment to sustainability, CAST—certified under the CST (Certification for Sustainable Tourism) program- promotes a tool that allows you to calculate the emissions generated during your visit and offset the carbon footprint of both air and land travel.

How the Calculator Works

Enter Your Travel Details

Select your country of origin and airport, number of passengers, destination country, and whether your trip is one-way or round-trip. Then click “calculate.”

View Your Results

The calculator will display the total CO₂-e emissions produced by your journey, along with the amount that needs to be offset.

Make Your Contribution

In the “compensate” section, you’ll see the cost in dollars to neutralize those emissions. Payments can be made easily with a debit or credit card, and you’ll receive a digital receipt once completed.

Why it matters

Every contribution goes directly to FONAFIFO programs that support reforestation, forest protection, and watershed conservation. By offsetting your footprint, you’re helping Costa Rica expand its forest cover and safeguard its natural resources for generations to come.
